The Pender Island Farmers’ Institute is pleased to announce that two students have been selected to share the Neptune Grimmer – Ashton Ross-Smith bursary. This bursary is for post- secondary studies in agriculture or related fields, such as business, science or environmental studies. Keenan Nowak, entering his second year at Quest University, is studying the physical sciences with an interest in environmental and earth sciences and engineering. He is currently stationed in Vanderhoof with the BC Wildfire Service, working in an attack crew to fight fires before they gain momentum and size. Keenan is an avid gardener and a long time Fall Fair volunteer. The other bursary recipient is Destin Laurencelle, a GISS 2016 graduate who will be studying business at SFU this fall. Destin started a business on Pender last summer, Student Landscaping, and he is looking forward to working on Pender with his business again this summer. Both Keenan and Destin were also excellent students, and we wish them all the best for a productive and successful academic year.
